THE SPINE SURGERY FELLOWSHIP

At Texas Back Institute, our faculty includes 20 Fellowship-trained spine surgeons, specialists in conservative care and pain management, and a team of allied health care professionals. Texas Back Institute trains orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons.

Physicians who seek specialty expertise in new and effective spine surgery techniques may discover no better opportunity for high-level training combined with a mentorship unsurpassed in the back and spine industry.

TBI Fellows see patients with:
• Degenerative spinal disorders
• Pediatric and adult scoliosis
• Spine trauma
• Spine tumors

Fellows will learn open and minimally invasive surgery techniques, including percutaneous surgical approaches. We will teach Fellows to perform anterior and posterior surgery of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, including lumbar and cervical arthroplasty, fusions, and discectomies. Our Fellows implant a wide variety of internal fixation devices, learn to perform spinal injections, and implant spinal cord stimulators. Fellows will also evaluate new surgical techniques in cadaveric training labs.

In addition to surgical training, Fellows gain visibility into all aspects of conservative care, including rehabilitation and outcome measurement. A Fellow’s commitments include Attending weekly teaching conferences and participating in and making regular presentations at Neuroscience, Interesting Case, and M&M conferences, as well as monthly Journal Club meetings. All Fellows are required to engage in ongoing research or to generate new research projects at the Texas Back Institute Research Foundation and are expected to present their research findings for successful completion of the Fellowship.

The duration of the Fellowship is one year (August 1 to July 31). Requests for participation in a six-month program are considered on an individual basis. Leaders in Advanced Spine Procedures

To find out whether you would benefit from artificial disc surgery, make an appointment to visit Texas Back Institute in the Dallas, TX, area for an evaluation. We always reserve surgery as a last resort, so we’ll seek to relieve pain first through conservative treatments such as physical therapy and pain management. If severe pain persists and it is determined that you would benefit from surgery, we can help you determine whether artificial disc replacement is right for you.
