Revolutionizing Spine Care…Changing Lives

Expanding Our Spine and Brain Care In McKinney by Dr. Alexander Satin

The expression “time flies” seems cliché until you actually experience it. Dr. Jessica Shellock and I expanded our orthopedic spine surgery practices to McKinney from existing Texas Back Institute locations in Plano and Frisco locations last summer.  While there have been some challenges along the way – COVID, winter storm – we have worked tirelessly to build trust with the patient and existing providers in the community.  Medical City McKinney has been a tremendous partner in helping us expand our practice to the hospital, ambulatory surgery center and medical office building.  Through this collaboration, we are now a growing part of the McKinney community.  The McKinney Chamber of Commerce has also been very supportive and facilitated many introductions.

Our organization’s mission statement is “Texas Back Institute exists to provide the best possible spine care in an environment of innovation, education and research”.  I think that this statement truly reflects our vision for our McKinney location.

Today we opened our new McKinney office in the medical office building at Medical City McKinney.  This state-of-the-art facility will allow us to provide the best care possible in a location that is convenient for patients.  Recently, we performed the first robotic spine surgery procedure at the hospital.  This technology facilitates the safe and accurate placement of spinal instrumentation.  While we only do this type of procedure when necessary, this technology greatly enhances our efficiency and allows us to “see the unseen”. Smaller incisions, less time in the operating room and quicker recovery are all possible.  We are also extremely passionate about avoiding fusion, when possible, and regularly perform disc replacement surgery.  Just recently, we performed a multilevel cervical disc replacement at the hospital.  The patient went home the next day with complete resolution of his neck and arm pain.  These  cutting-edge procedures allow patients to return to their previously active lifestyles.

The future of Texas Back Institute in McKinney is very bright.  Dr. Shashank Gandhi has just joined our practice in McKinney.  I’ve had the privilege of knowing him since our residency training in New York.  His arrival will further enrich our presence in the McKinney community – he is a fellowship trained spinal neurosurgeon and will also treat patients with cranial problems.  As part of our office expansion, Dr. Rajesh Arakal, who has been in the McKinney market for 13 years, will also be seeing patients in our new location.  With this expansion, Texas Back Institute doctors will be available to patients in McKinney every day of the week!
