Dr. Zigler Quote:

Artificial disc replacements have given my patients a better quality of life over the past 20 years. Being a pioneer and leader while championing for patient’s access to this technology has been the best part of my career.”

Jack E. Zigler, MD is an orthopaedic spine surgeon at the Texas Back Institute and is Co-Director of the Center for Disc Replacement.  Dr. Zigler earned his medical degree with honors from SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York.  After an Orthopaedic Surgery residency in New York City, he was one of the first Spine Fellows studying under Dr. Henry Bohlman at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Zigler was Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at USC before moving to Texas in 1996.  He is currently President of ISASS (the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery), Past President of ASIA (the American Spinal Injury Association), and has served on the Board of CSRS (the Cervical Spine Research Society).  He is on the Board of Trustees for the AO, an international non-profit educational organization.

Dr. Zigler implanted the first ProDisc lumbar disc replacements (both one and two level) in the United States.  He has published more than 75 peer-reviewed articles on spinal surgery and disc replacement, and has authored three major textbooks on spine surgery.  He has taught both cervical and lumbar disc replacement to thousands of spine surgeons globally, and frequently lectures all over the world about disc arthroplasty.

To find out whether you would benefit from artificial disc surgery, make an appointment to visit Texas Back Institute in the Dallas, TX, area for an evaluation. We always reserve surgery as a last resort, so we’ll seek to relieve pain first through conservative treatments such as physical therapy and pain management. If severe pain persists and it is determined that you would benefit from surgery, we can help you determine whether artificial disc replacement is right for you.
